Moderator says, "Greetings Universal Chatters and welcome to another live moderated chat! Tonight we're privileged to have Jeff Goldblum at the Backlot Café. Jeff Goldblum (Dr. Ian Malcolm) left an indelible mark with his performance as the brilliant and charismatic scientist in Jurassic Park, a role which he reprises in The Lost World. The star of two of the most successful movies ever made, Jurassic Park and Independence Day, he has been a favorite of audiences and critics alike for his starring roles in such films as The Fly, The Big Chill and Deep Cover. To say that Jeff Goldblum is a working actor would be an incredible understatement. Goldblum's long list of feature film credits include Chris Columbus' popular comedy Nine Months with Hugh Grant and The Lost World co-star Julianne Moore, Woody Allen's Annie Hall, Silverado, The Right Stuff, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Into the Night, and Thank God It's Friday just to name a few. Ladies and Gentlemen it's chat time. Please welcome Jeff Goldblum."

Moderator says, "First off, have you ever chatted live on the internet before?"

Jeff_goldblum says, "A little bit, before, yeah."

Moderator says, "In a live event?"

Jeff_goldblum says, "I think so, yes."

Moderator says, "Great...here we go"

Moderator presents the speakers with question #56 from Superwoman: Why wasn't the plot line in the movie Jurassic Park closer to the plot line of the book?

Jeff_goldblum says, "Because the brilliant writer David Koepp and the masterful Spielberg sprang into an invention that they . . . that is, they had some delicious, additional ideas!"

Moderator presents the speakers with question #12 from Helipro: What was like working w/ Steven Speilberg?

Jeff_goldblum says, "He was a true gift! Steven Spielberg is one of the world's most fascinating people and totally down-to-earth. As a director, he's brilliantly confident; terrifically prepared and joyfully spontaneous! On the set he's free as a bird."

Moderator presents the speakers with question #19 from Bounce: You have played leads in two of the largest grossing films of all time. How do you choose the most successful roles?

Jeff_goldblum says, "Oh. I'm just lucky in terms of ticket sales, because I mainly choose a part that gets my blood boiling."

Moderator presents the speakers with question #21 from Owlchick: Mr. Goldblum, aside from being a dino person, are you a dog person or a cat person?

Jeff_goldblum says, "I love both doggies and kitties. I could just scrunch up their cute little faces!"

Moderator presents the speakers with question #25 from Bentheharter: What is it like working with the animatronics

Jeff_goldblum says, "Unbelievable! Stan Winston, who won an Oscar last time for his landmark work, outdid himself this time. He created creatures that I could have sworn were real!"

Moderator presents the speakers with question #40 from Lostsoul: Jeff you're a real kinda guy..tell me...does fame and all it brings diminish ones ability to remain true to what one is?

Moderator presents the speakers with question #293 from Raptor2: Do you ad-lib a lot? You seem like a very smart person

Jeff_goldblum says, "Many directors I've worked with have been generous and collaborative and have let me put my two cents in, sometimes on the spot."

Moderator presents the speakers with question #229 from Paladin: Dr Malcolm appears to be a very technical role. Did you have to do any reading into his specialties to get ready for the role?

Jeff_goldblum says, "Before the first? Yes. I read a book or two and talked to some of the people who pioneered chaos mathematics. For this role it was helpful having gone through the first one; so I didn't have to imagine some back story; I lived it and watched it again on tape. But I asked Steven Spielberg if I should watch any movies that might apply to the flavor of what we were going to do. And he told me to watch The Bridge on the River Kwai, and the Guns of Naverrone and a couple of others."

Moderator presents the speakers with question #235 from Angel: "I think you are an incredible and very believable actor! Which character part in your career so far has been the most challenging for you as an actor?

Moderator presents the speakers with question #358 from Pam: Since you are such a fine piano player as well as actor would you do a music cd?

Jeff_goldblum ponders thoughtfully.

Jeff_goldblum says, "It's more of a hobby; not a second career. But, in fact, a friend of mine, a wonderful saxophonist, named Lincoln Adler, just asked me to play piano on one of his songs on his next CD -- and I did! I wish you and I could sing a song together, right now!"

Moderator presents the speakers with question #82 from Dan: First Dinosaurs, Then Aliens, Now dinosaurs... Will the next one be aliens too?

Moderator presents the speakers with question #355 from Stykman: During the filming was there any part that actually put a cast members life in danger

They would tell us, make sure you turn off your laptop computers and cellphones, because if you turn them on, the dinosaur might go out of control and do what it wants. So, don't go near it if you don't have to! That would have been terrible! To be killed by a model T-Rex!"
